its a beautiful day to step out and enjoy the outdoors, but that isnt possible. its not like there is a law prohibiting one from walking freely on the streets and basking in the scenery of one's environment.Do you want to know why?
Well the hydra headed problem called climate change has showed up at my doorstep. Its humidly hot and unbearable to take a walk, enjoy a run or go for a hike. It was always a mentality of "it isn't my problem?" and unfortunately it has caught up me.
As much as i have reached the realization that my little anti- environmental acts can contribute greatly to climate change, most people have not reached this realization. If we are not collectively sensitized as a people on the impact of our activities on the environment and these activities go unchecked, it will lead to untold hardship on us.
The people of Eleme, Rivers State are experiencing first hand some of the impacts of the activities of the Eleme refinery located in the area. Reasearch carried out in that area showed significant amounts of Methane and Particulate matter(10 & 2.5) in the environment, with concentrations decreasing away from the refinery. Most occupants of the area suffer from breathing issues and the noise levels are high beacause of the all day movement of trucks along the roads. How then are they to actively take up outdoor exercises when such are their environmental conditions?
